The next ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movie has been delayed
The third movie in the Fantastic Beasts series has hit some problems.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was released in cinemas last November.
Set in post-World War I Europe, the second in a planned five-film prequel franchise exploring the Wizarding World of Harry Potter continued the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander.
The first Fantastic Beasts movie was released in 2016 and the plan was to release the next instalment at the end of 2020.
Filming on Fantastic Beasts 3 was set to begin this July, but it’s now being reported that the shoot has been delayed.
Deadline writes that “more pre-production time is needed for the threequel” and “actors are being alerted about the push in production in order to change their working schedules.”
Harry Potter creator JK Rowling revealed last summer that she was already writing the script for the follow-up to The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The first two Fantastic Beasts movies have grossed a combined total of $1.46 billion worldwide, although box office figures for the second movie were apparently significantly lower than Warner Bros. execs had hoped.
No date has yet been announced, but Fantastic Beasts 3 will probably now be released in summer 2021.
Eddie Redmayne is expected to return as Newt Scamander in the movie, alongside Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Johnny Depp and Jude Law.
