‘The Singapore Grip’ finale recap: What happened in Episode 6?

ITV’s new adaptation of The Singapore Grip concluded in the UK tonight.

Based on J.G. Farrell’s classic novel, the new six-part mini-series focuses on a British family living in Singapore at the time of the Japanese invasion in World War Two.

The cast includes Luke Treadaway (Ordeal By Innocence), David Morrissey (Britannia), Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous), Colm Meaney (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Luke Newberry (In The Flesh), Elizabeth Tan (Coronation Street), and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones).

Here’s a plot recap for the sixth and final episode, which aired on ITV at 9pm on Sunday 18th October 2020:

Despite the crushing attacks on Singapore, the British are instructed to continue fighting at all costs.

Walter, still reeling, refuses to accept defeat.

Resorting to petitioning his longstanding business rivals, he is given an unexpected lifeline.

Meanwhile, Matthew is devastated to learn that Vera is in imminent danger from the rapidly advancing Japanese.

While his attempts to find her are futile, Walter’s grip on reality weakens, and Matthew becomes his unlikely saviour.

When the lovers eventually reunite, fresh trouble awaits and the horrors of war force them apart, with each being left to the mercy of the Japanese.
