Watch Rishi Nair, Grantchester’s new vicar, chat to Tom and Robson about working on the Grantchester set
Earlier this year Grantchester confirmed that Series 9 will be Tom Brittney’s last in the role of the Reverend Will Davenport. Brittney joined in Series 4, taking over the reins from beloved actor James Norton who played the original vicar, Sidney Chambers. The makers of the series confirmed that former Hollyoaks actor Rishi Nair will be taking over as the show’s new co-lead. He will join the show as Alphy Kotteram, the handsome new vicar who is very likely to shake things up in Grantchester.

Who is Rishi Nair?
Rishi Nair (born 1991) is an English actor who is already a familiar face to viewers of British television. He played the role of lawyer Sami Maalik in the popular series Hollyoaks from 2017-2021) as well as a number of smaller roles on series including Whitstable Pearl, New Tricks and Treason. He has also appeared in the 2022 British film Brian and Charles.
Rishi told Grantchester fans that he is:
“Over the moon to be the new lead in the iconic British drama ‘Grantchester’ alongside the immensely talented Robson Green. Let’s get to work!” He added: “Been hard keeping this one quiet! So excited to get started!”
