All Creature Great and Small Preview: First Look at Series 5

The first preview images of the fifth season of the beloved series All Creatures Great and Small have been released!

The show chronicles the heartwarming and amusing adventures of a young country vet in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s.

As previously announced, we know the popular series has been commissioned for a further two seasons. Filming of the fifth instalment of the show began in March 2024 on location in Grassington, North Yorkshire. In line with the previous series, Series 5 will consist of six episodes and a Christmas special.

What can we expect?

The official synopsis reads:

“The series will continue to bring the stories of James Herriot to life as we return to Darrowby to rejoin our unconventional much loved Skeldale Family and the colourful ensemble of farmers, animals and townsfolk living in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1940s.”

Series 5 will see the welcome return of Tristan Farnon (Callum Woodhouse), who did not appear in the fourth series as his character had left to serve in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. You’ll see from the photo that he has matured and is now in a military uniform and has grown a moustache!

Another photo shows a serious James (Nicholas Ralph) in uniform next to a military aeroplane indicating that he is still serving in the RAF.

The third image (top of page) is of a happier event and shows, James, Helen (Rachel Shenton) and all their friends posing for a group photo outside the village church for their baby son’s christening. The photo includes a lot of familiar faces, including Nicholas Ralph as James Herriot, Anna Madeley as Mrs Hall, Rachel Shenton as Helen Herriot, James Anthony-Rose as Richard Carmody, and Patricia Hodge as Mrs Pumphrey.

When can we watch it?

Season 5 will premiere on TV in late 2024 on Channel 5 in the UK and in early 2025 on PBS Masterpiece in the US.

All Creatures Great and Small seasons 1-4 are available to watch on My5 in the UK.
