Will there be a second season of ‘Beecham House’?

The first season of Beecham House ended with a massive cliffhanger last night.

Created by the writer and director of Bend It Like Beckham, ITV’s new period drama series is set on the cusp of the 19th century in India.

Beecham House starred a cast of familiar faces from British period dramas, including Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey), Tom Bateman (Vanity Fair), Dakota Blue Richards (Endeavour), Leo Suter (Victoria), Gregory Fitoussi (Mr Selfridge) and Bessie Carter (Les Miserables).

Despite the big twists and shocking ending in last night’s finale, ITV has yet to confirm if the show will be returning for more episodes next year.

However, Beecham House star Pallavi Sharda has revealed that there is definitely talk of another season.

The Australian actress, who plays Chandrika, told Digital Spy: “Ideally as actors, we would love it to keep it going and going. I know that there have been talks about a Season 2, but I don’t know at this point what is happening.”

Discussing the real life events that future seasons of Beecham House could explore, the Lion star commented: “We’re very hopeful because there’s so much scope that we’ve only just started to navigate in terms of episode 5 and 6, the political side of what’s happening.”

She explained: “Episodes 1-3 were about setting up the characters and the house and the internal conflicts and now its getting a bit broader, and that’s what’s really exciting and get[s] audiences, in terms of how the world was operating at that time and the decision-making at the time on behalf of an entire people.”

Beecham House will air in the USA later this year on Masterpiece on PBS.

Lesley Nicol will reprise the role of Mrs Patmore in the Downton Abbey movie this autumn.
