DISNEY+ shares preview teaser trailer for Jilly Cooper’s ‘Rivals’ series

Disney + has released the preview trailer for its upcoming mini-series Rivals.

Fans of the celebrated Jilly Cooper novel will be pleased to hear that it will premiere on Hulu in the U.S. and on Disney+ in other countries later this year.

The book is one of the Rutshire Chronicles series of novels, set in the fictional English county of Rutshire. The series delves into the lives and shocking antics of the wealthy and powerful, where money and power are everything and life is far from dull.

What is it about?

The story is set in 1986 in the cut-throat world of independent television. Aidan Turner plays a TV journalist Declan O’Hara, who becomes caught between the longstanding rivalry between his boss, TV mogul Lord Bellingham, and the handsome rake Conservative MP, Rupert Campbell-Black.

Who is in it?

The series has a star-studded cast ; the central cast includes David Tennant, Aidan Turner, Alex Hassell, Bella Maclean, Katherine Parkinson, and Nafessa Williams.

The supporting cast is also stellar, with Emily Atack, Catriona Chandler, Oliver Chris, Danny Dyer, Rufus Jones, Lisa McGrillis, Luke Pasqualino, Claire Rushbrook, and Victoria Smurfit.

Who is behind it?

The series is produced by Happy Prince, which is part of ITV Studios. It was written by Dominic Treadwell-Collins and Laura Wade. The lead director is BAFTA-nominated Elliot Hegarty (‘Ted Lasso), who also serves as executive producer on episodes 1-4. Eliza Mellor (‘Poldark’) serves as Series Producer.

When will it air?

We don’t have an exact release date yet, but it has been confirmed that the eight episodes will air on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ in other countries later this year.
