The second ‘Downton Abbey’ movie has taken another BIG step forwards!

Downton star Jim Carter has revealed a very exciting development.

Based on ITV’s hit period drama series, the first Downton Abbey movie was released last autumn, where it topped the box office in the UK and the US.

While there’s not yet been an official announcement from the studio, the creative team have openly revealed that they’re busy planning a follow-up.

The last update we heard had been back in May, however – until today!

Speaking on British daytime show This Morning, Mr Carson actor Jim Carter announced that the sequel’s script is now complete.

He said: “We’ve seen a script – a script for a second film is there, we’ve seen it.”

Discussing what the second movie entails, Carter hinted: “It’s very funny, it’s got all the same characters in, all the regular characters.”

We’re still waiting to see exactly which cast members will be back though.

Things weren’t looking positive for Dame Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess at the end of last year’s movie, and co-star Elizabeth McGovern isn’t sure she wants to play Lady Cora again.

Hopefully McGovern can be persuaded to return, as the producers are thinking about setting part of the sequel in America!

The first Downton Abbey movie is available on DVD on Amazon.
