‘Downton Abbey’ star Jim Carter says ‘fans of the show will love the film’
Jim Carter has been chatting about what fans should expect from the upcoming Downton Abbey movie.
The show’s big screen spin-off completed production last week, after a 50-day shoot in England.
NBC recently aired an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the movie, taking a sneak peek around Highclere Castle during filming.
Carter, who played Mr Carson in all six seasons of ITV’s hit British period drama series, told Digital Spy: “It’s sort of like going back to school after the summer holidays, because you go, ‘Wow how are you, what have you been doing?’ Then 10 minutes later you think, ‘Here we are again’. It’s lovely to see everybody.”
The actor admitted, however, that the whole cast didn’t actually spend that much time all back together on screen.
He revealed: “It’s rare that you get a scene with everybody in it, because usually there’s upstairs and there’s downstairs. But I think we’ve got some scenes with everybody. So that’ll be nice.”
Written by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, the movie will see all the regular cast reprise their roles, with the exception of one big star.
Hinting at the movie’s plot, Carter said that fans can expect to “enjoy more of the same, a single story rather than a series.”
He added: “People are going to watch it because they like Downton Abbey. All the main characters are back. It’s all set around Highclere Castle and Downton Abbey itself. A few new additions.
“Fans of the show will hopefully love the film, because here we are but on a big screen. That’ll be the appeal of it.”
Jim Carter’s real-life wife Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter) is one of the cast’s new additions, although the couple won’t be interacting on screen as her character is apparently “posh and upstairs.”
