When does ‘Last Tango in Halifax’ Season 5 start on PBS in the US?

PBS has announced when Last Tango in Halifax will be back in the US.

Created by Gentleman Jack writer Sally Wainwright, the BBC’s family comedy-drama series returned in the UK in February.

Last Tango in Halifax first aired in 2012 and tells the story of former childhood sweethearts Alan and Celia, who reunite in their seventies.

Anne Reid, Derek Jacobi, Nicola Walker and Sarah Lancashire all reprised their roles as Celia, Alan, Gillian and Caroline in this year’s four new episodes, following a three-year hiatus.

Season 5 is currently set to premiere in the US at 8/7c on Sunday 20th September on Masterpiece on PBS, although this date may change.

The official story synopsis reads: “As they enter their seventh year of marriage, Alan and Celia are discovering that wedded bliss isn’t always blissful.

“Clashing politics, a new job and other distractions increase tensions in the household.

“Meanwhile, Celia’s daughter Caroline gets emotionally embroiled at work – and Alan’s brother, Ted, flies in for a visit with a special yet unexpected guest.”

Last Tango creator Sally Wainwright recently revealed that she’s keen to write more episodes.

Before she begins writing a sixth season, however, Wainwright has the new season of Gentleman Jack to finish!

Last Tango in Halifax is available on DVD on Amazon.
