‘Last Tango in Halifax’ star reveals if Season 5 is still going to happen
Despite no official renewal from the BBC, Last Tango in Halifax fans shouldn’t give up hope for a new season just yet.
Last year star Derek Jacobi, who plays Alan, announced that the BBC’s hit comedy-drama series would not be returning for more episodes, saying: “…Tango is finished. It’s very sad, we all loved it.”
However, a BBC spokesperson later commented: “[Writer Sally Wainwright] is presently engaged with another BBC project, but has every intention of revisiting Last Tango when she is able to.”
Now Jacobi’s co-star Nicola Walker, who plays Celia’s daughter Gillian, has revealed that she’s still optimistic: “I didn’t get the memo that said it’s not coming back! I’ve been merrily going along imagining that at some point we’ll do another series.”
She added: “I really hope [we do], because selfishly I love hanging out with all those actors. But I have no idea.”
Last Tango in Halifax launched on BBC One in November 2012 and ran for three seasons. It returned with a brief two-part fourth season for Christmas 2016.
The most recent episodes are now available on DVD.
Last Tango in Halifax creator Sally Wainwright’s new period drama series, Gentleman Jack, will air on BBC One later this year.
