‘Downton Abbey’ star is filming third season of Netflix’s ‘After Life’

Penelope Wilton has begun shooting another season of After Life.

The 75-year-old English actress is known for playing Lady Isobel in all six seasons of Downton Abbey.

She’s also appeared in The Borrowers, Doctor Who, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Calendar Girls.

Wilton will be reprising her role as Anne in six new episodes of Netflix’s British comedy-drama series After Life.

Written by and starring comedian Ricky Gervais, the hit comedy-drama launched in 2019 and Season 3 started filming in April.

Netflix has unveiled a selection of behind the scenes photos from the shoot:

The show’s official synopsis reads: “After Life is the story of Tony, who had an all-too-perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes.

“He decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.”

The first two seasons are available to watch exclusively on Netflix.

The cast of After Life also includes British actor Peter Egan, who played Hugh “Shrimpie” MacClare in Downton Abbey.

Penelope Wilton is expected to return as Isobel Crawley in the second Downton movie.

Downton Abbey 2 is also filming right now, however, so presumably Wilton is rushing about between the two productions!

The much-anticipated sequel will arrive in cinemas later this year.

A number of brand new cast members were recently confirmed, so it’s possible that Isobel will have a reduced role in the new film.

The first Downton Abbey movie is available on DVD on Amazon.
