‘Sanditon’ is officially returning for a second AND third season!

Wow, here’s some wonderful news we didn’t expect to be writing…

It’s just been revealed that Sanditon has been renewed for Season 2 and Season 3!

Based on Jane Austen’s unfinished final novel, the period drama series launched in the UK in 2019 and aired in the US last year.

The UK ratings for Sanditon weren’t quite as high as ITV had hoped and it was announced in February 2020 that the show had been cancelled.

This news was a particular shock following Season 1’s cliffhanger ending.

However, it looks like Charlotte and Sidney might still get their happy ending after all!

PBS has officially confirmed today that they’ve teamed up with BritBox in the UK for the shock two-season renewal.

Will Harrison, BritBox UK MD commented: “We couldn’t be happier to be involved in bringing the wonderful Sanditon back to screens across the UK, and want to thank the fans for keeping these characters alive while plans came together.”

ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill said: “I’m so glad that the success of Sanditon in the US has paved the way for its return, and for ITV to continue on this wonderful journey.”

She added: “We know there are many loyal fans of the show in the UK that will be delighted to see its return and that we were able to find a way to bring it back.”

Season 2 and Season 3 will air on PBS Masterpiece in the US.

In the UK, they’ll each premiere on BritBox, before airing on ITV at a later date.

Meanwhile, you can listen to the music from the series and read The World of Sanditon: The Official Companion, a stunning book providing an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the show.

Since the show debuted two years ago, Sanditon has been sold in 176 countries around the world.

Sanditon is available on DVD on Amazon.
