‘The Artful Dodger’ trailer: Disney+ confirms release date for new 1850s drama
Disney+ has officially announced when The Artful Dodger begins!
The upcoming Australian Original series follows Jack Dawkins – aka the Artful Dodger – from Oliver Twist.
Set in 1850s Australia, the show will explore the adult double life of Charles Dickens’ iconic character, now “a surgeon who can’t shake his predilection for crime.”
The eight-part series started filming last November in New South Wales, Australia and we’ve been looking forward to this one.
English actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster (yes, that’s young Sam from Love Actually!) leads The Artful Dodger as the title character.
He’s joined by fellow British actor David Thewlis (Enola Holmes 2, Harry Potter) as Fagin, with Australian actress Maia Mitchell playing Lady Belle Fox.
As the show’s launch nears, Disney+ has unveiled an exciting new trailer for the series.
Take a look here:
Sceptical viewers on YouTube seem to be won over by the trailer, with one commenting: “I think I’m going to give it a chance. I was always interested in the Artful Dodger. Also, I love the Maze Runner movies which Thomas Sangster did well in.”
“This looks fun, I’ll definitely check it out,” wrote another. “Also enjoy Thomas Brodie-Sangster and think he’ll give us a really good Dodger.”
Others joked about how how star 33-year-old star Thomas Brodie Sangster still looks the same as he did 20 years ago.
“[He’s] Peter Pan y’all! He simply just CANNOT age!!” noted a fan.
“In the lively colony of Port Victory, Jack Dawkins, aka The Artful Dodger, is now a surgeon who still has a penchant for crime,” the official synopsis reveals.
“When Dodger’s past returns to haunt him with the arrival of Fagin, he is lured back into a world of crime. From heists to life-and-death surgeries, to the harsh realities of the criminal world mingling with the middle ground and gentry, this is a tale of reinvention, betrayal, redemption, and love with a twist.”
When’s the release date?
