Josh O’Connor says ‘The Durrells’ could come back for Season 5
After four seasons of fun in the sun, The Durrells is over – for now!
Based upon Gerald Durrell’s classic trilogy of Corfu memoirs, the 1930s family period drama launched in 2016 and it was announced last summer that fourth season would be the show’s last.
The final episode aired in the UK last weekend, but actor Josh O’Connor says he won’t rule out a Durrells follow-up.
There might be quite a wait, however.
O’Connor, who played Larry in the series, told Digital Spy: “There’s so much material, there will always be more material and Simon Nye is such a brilliant writer…”
He added: “I’m sure there are stories to be told but it just sort of feels like a really good time to give it some space now.”
Looking to the future, he commented: “All of us are off doing different things and that’s really exciting, and it’s been a beautiful part of our lives, so who knows if we’ll ever come back to it.”
At least that sounds like he’s certainly not ruling out the possibility of a fifth season of The Durrells!
The show’s writer Simon Nye recently explained why he decided it was the right time end the series.
Season 4 will air in the USA this autumn on Masterpiece on PBS.
Josh O’Connor can be seen later this year playing Prince Charles in the third season of The Crown.
The Durrells is available on DVD on Amazon.
