‘Vanity Fair’ interview: Writer Gwyneth Hughes on adapting the classic novel for TV

ITV’s lavish new adaptation of Vanity Fair is released on DVD next week.

From the makers of Victoria, the seven-part mini-series tells the story of Becky Sharp as she attempts to claw her way out of poverty and scale the heights of English Society, set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars.

English novelist William Makepeace Thackeray’s classic 1847 novel has been adapted for television by Miss Austen Regrets writer Gwyneth Hughes.

The final episode airs at 9pm this Sunday on ITV in the UK.
