The first trailer has been released for the new season of Doctor Who.

The BBC’s long-running sci-fi drama series about a time-travelling alien will be back on our screens in early 2020, with Broadchurch star Jodie Whitaker returning as the Thirteenth Doctor.

Guest stars in the twelfth season of Doctor Who to air since its mid-’00s revival will include British national treasure Stephen Fry, Hustle actor Robert Glenister, comedian Lenny Henry and American TV star Goran Višnjić.

As well as stories set in the present day and the future, the 10 new episodes will also feature historical adventures including a trip to Paris during World War II, an encounter with Frankenstein author Mary Shelley and a visit to 1940s New York.

Goran Višnjić, best known as Dr. Luka Kovač in hospital drama ER, has confirmed that he’ll be playing a famous real-life figure.

He commented: “I’ve always been a huge fan of Doctor Who, so when the offer to play one of my favourite people in history came, it made me so happy to be part of the show and it turned into this awesome, dream job!”

It has been rumoured that he’s playing Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla.

Joining Whitaker will be returning main cast members Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill as TARDIS companions Graham, Ryan and Yasmin.

Season 12 is expected to premiere on New Year’s Day on BBC One in the UK and on BBC America in the US.
