Thomas Barrow actor hints at a romance (finally!) in the ‘Downton Abbey’ movie

Downton Abbey star Robert James-Collier has revealed there’s “an adventure” ahead for Thomas.

The former Coronation Street actor played under-butler Thomas Barrow in all six seasons of the hit period drama series.

He’ll reprise the role later this year in the upcoming Downton Abbey movie, alongside almost all the other surviving characters from the show.

When the latest trailer for the film debuted last month, eagle-eyed fans spotted Thomas Barrow with a new character, looking uncharacteristically upbeat.

Could Thomas have finally found happiness with a romance? We do hope so.

Hinting at his character’s storyline, James-Collier told Metro: “He’s sort of a film within a film. Mr Carson is brought back to help when the royal family visit the abbey and Thomas sees it as a slight of his abilities so he stands himself down for the duration of their visit and goes off and has an adventure.

“So it was strange because I was back with everyone for parts of it but for big parts I was on my own filming up in Bradford.”

He joked: “It was like I was doing a Thomas Barrow special, which I think everyone wants to see!”

The Downton Abbey movie will be released in the UK on Friday 13th September and in the USA on Friday 20th September.

Tom Branson actor Allen Leech has claimed that fans are “going to have tears” when they watch the movie.
