Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens has said sorry again to fans who were upset by his exit from the show.
His character, Matthew Crawley, was killed in a car accident just moments after his wife Mary had given birth during the final episode of the period drama’s third season – which aired on Christmas Day in the UK five years ago!
Speaking to The Guardian recently, Stevens was asked who he’d most like to apologise to. He answered: “Downton Abbey fans for ruining Christmas in 2012.”
He previously commented: “The way Matthew went was out of my hands – but it was rather shocking.”

The English actor has had a hugely successful year, starring in acclaimed X-Men spin-off TV series Legion and Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.
Dan Stevens can currently be seen playing author Charles Dickens in The Man Who Invented Christmas, in cinemas now.
