Pressure, a new historical drama about one of the most important decisions of the Second World War, is due to be released in UK cinemas next month, with Andrew Scott and Brendan Fraser leading the cast.

The film was released in US cinemas in May 2026. Set during the 72 hours before the Allied invasion of Normandy, Pressure explores the uncertainty, responsibility and atmosphere of fear behind one of the most consequential military operations in modern history.

What is it about?

The film follows General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Captain James Stagg as they face an impossible choice. Should they launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion ever attempted, despite the threat of stormy weather, or postpone the operation and risk losing the war?

Andrew Scott plays James Stagg, the meteorologist whose forecasts could decide the fate of thousands of Allied troops. Brendan Fraser takes on the role of Eisenhower, the Supreme Allied Commander whose decision will determine whether the invasion can go ahead.

With the weather threatening to upend the carefully planned operation, the film offers an intimate perspective on the tense days leading up to D-Day.

Who is in the cast?

The film’s ensemble cast also includes Kerry Condon (F1), Chris Messina (Argo) and Damian Lewis (Wolf Hall). It was directed by Anthony Maras, best known for Hotel Mumbai, who also co-wrote the screenplay with David Haig.

Haig’s acclaimed stage play previously enjoyed a successful West End run before being performed for Her Majesty The Queen and world leaders to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day in 2019. The film adaptation brings that tightly focused story to the screen, with Working Title and STUDIOCANAL producing alongside Focus Features.
