‘Outlander’ creator thinks Sam Heughan should be the next James Bond

The author of the Outlander novels has backed Sam Heughan to play 007 next.

Daniel Craig begins filming his fifth Bond mission very soon.

Bond 25, as it’s known for now, is due to arrive in cinemas on 14th February 2020.

The film is expected to be Craig’s swansong in the role of British secret agent James Bond, with a number of period drama stars in line to replace him.

Among the contenders is Scottish actor Sam Heughan, best known to Outlander fans as Jamie Fraser.

Outlander creator Diana Gabaldon told the Daily Record: “I have seen that Sam is being tipped for James Bond and I think it would be great. Sam would do a fine job of it.”

She added that nothing has yet been confirmed: “There is always a lot of talk every time James Bond changes so it’s anybody’s guess.”

The 38-year-old star played a British spy last summer in comedy-action movie The Spy Who Dumped Me.

After a run of gritty Bond movies in Daniel Craig’s era since his debut 2006, it’ll be interesting to see what direction the producers take the franchise in next.

Perhaps the next Bond will ditch the globetrotting and just find a British online casino instead!

As for how Heughan might play the famous character, Gabaldon commented: “I’m sure that Sam would bring something different to the role. He is a fabulous actor. I have seen him do a number of amazing things as an actor.”

She predicted: “He would handle that role well … you can always rely on Sam to find something new about a character so we’ll see.”
