‘Downton’ star shows off her singing and dancing in ‘Mamma Mia’ sequel trailer – watch!

A new trailer has been released for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!.

Written and directed by Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), the sequel to Mamma Mia! arrives in cinemas on 20 July.

The movie stars Lily James as the young version of Donna, Meryl Streep’s character, in flashbacks.

The 28-year-old English actress played Lady Rose in Downton Abbey and has since starred in CinderellaBaby Driver and the BBC’s War & Peace adaptation.

She’s joined by original cast members Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Dominic Cooper.

The sequel finished filming last December, with Lily James describing the shoot as “the happiest most wonderful job.”

Adapted from the 1999 West End musical of the same name and based on the songs of Swedish pop group ABBA, the original Mamma Mia! film was released in cinemas back in 2008 and grossed more than $600 million around the world.

The movie is available to buy on DVD.

The story in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! will go “back and forth in time to show how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present.”

Alexa Davies (A Brilliant Young Mind) and Jessica Keenan Wynn (Broadway’s Beautiful) are playing young Rosie and young Tanya, while Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) is young Sam, Josh Dylan (Allied) is young Bill and Hugh Skinner (W1A) is young Harry.
