‘Endeavour’ writer hints at what 1970 will bring for Morse next season

The new season of Endeavour begins filming in Oxford soon.

Following last month’s Season 6 finale, ITV announced that the Inspector Morse prequel series will return for a seventh season in 2020.

Shaun Evans will be back as DS Endeavour Morse, alongside Roger Allam as DI Fred Thursday.

The latest season was set in 1969 and Endeavour creator Russell Lewis has now confirmed that next year’s season will be set in 1970, bringing Morse into a brand new decade.

Lewis, who has written every episode of Endeavour so far, has hinted: “We’re thrilled ITV has asked #TeamEndeavour to continue to add to the Casebook of Colin Dexter’s immortal creation, and take E. Morse and Oxford’s Finest into a new decade of decimalisation, package holidays, the Oil Crisis, Blackouts, Three Day Weeks, and Europa Endlos.”

Season 7 is expected to premiere in the UK on ITV early next year.

Season 6 will air in the USA this summer on Masterpiece on PBS.

The fifth season of Endeavour is available on DVD on Amazon.
