Marvellous news for ‘Last Tango in Halifax’ fans!
It’s official; Last Tango in Halifax is definitely returning!
The family comedy-drama series launched on BBC One in November 2012 and ran for three seasons, telling the story of former childhood sweethearts Alan and Celia, who reunite in their seventies.
Last Tango was briefly revived for two Christmas specials in 2016 and it was believed at the time that this was the end of the show.
Since then, there have been mixed messages from the cast, with Derek Jacobi (Alan) saying it’s “finished” and Nicola Walker (Gillian) responding: “I didn’t get the memo that said it’s not coming back!”
Earlier this year, Sarah Lancashire (Caroline) revealed that Last Tango writer Sally Wainwright was “on the case.”
The BBC’s Director of Content Charlotte Moore has now officially confirmed to Radio Times that four new episodes of Last Tango in Halifax are being made.
Season 5 will air on BBC One in the UK in 2020 and filming is expected to commence later this year.
Last Tango creator Sally Wainwright’s hit new period drama series Gentleman Jack was also recently renewed for a second season.
Meanwhile, Last Tango star Anne Reid is starring in ITV’s upcoming Jane Austen adaptation, Sanditon.
2016’s Last Tango in Halifax specials are available on DVD on Amazon.
