Will there be a fifth season of ‘Grantchester’ in 2020?
ITV has made an official announcement about the future of Grantchester.
Based on James Runcie’s novels, the 1950s period drama series launched in 2014 and returned this spring with a fourth season.
This year’s new episodes saw James Norton depart the show as vicar Sidney Chambers.
He was replaced by 27-year-old actor Tom Brittney, best known for his roles in Call the Midwife and Outlander.
Fortunately, it looks like fans have welcomed clergyman Will Davenport as DI Geordie Keating’s new crime-solving partner!
It was confirmed this week that Grantchester will be back next year for a fifth season.
Executive producer Emma Kingsman-Lloyd commented: “We are very excited that Grantchester is returning for a fifth series.”
She added: “The audience has taken the pairing of Robson Green and Tom Brittney to their hearts and we are delighted to be able to continue the story of Geordie and Will with Masterpiece and ITV.”
Robson Green recently admitted that he almost quit Grantchester at the same time as co-star James Norton left.
Season 4 is currently airing in the USA at 9/8c on Sunday nights on Masterpiece on PBS.
The first three seasons of Grantchester are available on DVD on Amazon.
