We were sad to see Ghosts come to an end in 2023, so this is a wonderful surprise!
The BBC has officially announced this morning that a feature-length film is set to begin production this March.
From the makers of Horrible Histories, Ghosts was a massive hit with audiences young and old during its five-season run on BBC One.
The final episode was watched by a massive 7.2 million viewers when it aired in Christmas 2023, becoming the most-watched comedy series of the year in the UK.
Regular director Simon Hynd returns to direct Ghosts: The Possession of Button House, which has been written by Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond.
“We thought we had said goodbye to Button House at the end of the final series,” the team said. “We never planned to come back. But when we had the idea for this story, we all got so excited that we couldn’t resist returning to our haunted home for one more adventure.”
“We can’t wait to be together and to welcome some brilliant new faces, to tell this soul-stirring tale of life and death,” they added.
Those stars/writers/creators will be joined once again by Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe.
There’s no mention of Katy Wix, who played Mary and departed in the fourth season, but we’re hoping for a cameo appearance at least!

“Die-hard fans and newcomers are in for a real treat,” promises producer Alison Carpenter.
Ghosts: The Possession of Button House will be shot on location at West Horsley Place in Surrey, England and in the surrounding area.
