‘Emily in Paris’ star will play Audrey Hepburn in movie about ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’

A new film about the dramatic making of Breakfast at Tiffany’s has been announced with a key bit of casting.

It’ll be based on Sam Wasson’s non-fiction book Fifth Avenue, 5 AM: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Dawn of the Modern Woman, with with Apple TV’s Dickinson series creator Alena Smith adapting the book for the screen.

Of course, the thing we all really want to know if who’ll be playing Audrey Hepburn, and it’s been confirmed that Lily Collins from Emily in Paris has won the role.

The 37-year-old English/American actress reacted on Instagram saying: “It’s with almost 10 years of development and a lifetime of admiration and adoration for Audrey that I’m finally able share this. “Honoured and ecstatic don’t begin to express how I feel … ”

If you’re not a fan of Emily in Paris on Netflix, you may have seen Lily Collins in Mirror Mirror, Tolkien, Mank, or the BBC’s 2018 adaptation of Les Misérables.

Initially a novella by Truman Capote, published in 1958, Breakfast at Tiffany’s became one of Hepburn’s most famous parts, but Capote wasn’t a fan of her casting.

After Shirley MacLaine and Kim Novak rejected the role of Holly Golightly, Hepburn was cast against Capote’s wishes, in what Capote described as “the most miscast film I’ve ever seen.”

Capote wanted Marilyn Monroe for the lead role, so the making of Breakfast at Tiffany’s sounds like a fascinating story for this new movie to delve into!

We’re told that Collins’ film will be the “first complete account of the making of the film,” recreating all the behind the scenes drama “from preproduction to on-set disasters.”

Filming is expected to begin later this year for a 2027 release.
