‘The Pale Horse’ recap: What happened in Episode 2?

The BBC’s new Agatha Christie adaptation concluded in the UK tonight.

Based on 1961’s The Pale Horse, the new two-part period drama comes from award-winning screenwriter Sarah Phelps (The ABC Murders, Ordeal By Innocence).

Rufus Sewell (VictoriaThe Marvellous Mrs. Maiselleads the cast as Mark Easterbrook, alongside Kaya Scodelario (Skins), Bertie Carvel (Doctor Foster), Sean Pertwee (Elementary), Henry Lloyd-Hughes (Indian Summers), Poppy Gilbert (Call the Midwife) and Claire Skinner (Vanity Fair).

Mark is consumed with paranoia, fearful that his life is at risk and that the perpetrator is someone known to him.

To make matters worse, Detective Inspector Lejeune seems increasingly suspicious of him.

Mark determines to find a rational explanation for what has happened, which seems to lie in the ties between his first wife Delphine and the trio of ‘witches’ at Much Deeping.
