ITV has released a gallery of new photos from its upcoming Torvill and Dean TV movie.
Airing later this month, the two-hour drama explores the early years of British ice dancers Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.
The British, European, Olympic and World champions won gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and became the highest scoring figure skaters of all time.
Poppy Lee Friar (Ackley Bridge, In the Club) is playing Jayne Torvill.
Will Tudor, best known to period drama fans for his roles in Mr Selfridge and Game of Thrones, is playing Christopher Dean.
They’re joined by Stephen Tompkinson (DCI Banks) and Jo Hartley (This Is England ’90) as Jayne’s parents.
Dean Andrews (Life on Mars, Last Tango in Halifax) is playing Chris’s father.
The cast also includes Christine Bottomley (In the Club) as Chris’s mother, and Anita Dobson (Call the Midwife, EastEnders) as Jayne’s first coach Miss Perry.
Torvill and Dean is written by William Ivory (Made in Dagenham, Burton and Taylor) and began filming this summer.
Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean previously commented: “We feel very honoured that ITV have commissioned this film based on what was a very significant period in each of our lives.
“We have thoroughly enjoyed the time we have spent with William Ivory and the team at Darlow Smithson sharing experiences of our passion for skating, the life long friendship that came through our sport and everything that it took to achieve our eventual goal of becoming Olympic champions.”
Torvill and Dean is expected to air in the UK this Christmas on ITV.
