All Creatures Great and Small renewed for Series 5 and 6

There’s exciting  news for fans of the new All Creatures Great and Small series!

Based on author James Herriot’s much-loved collection of stories, Channel 5’s smash hit reboot launched in 2020 and has met with a warm reception from critics and viewers alike.

The show chronicles the heartwarming and amusing adventures of a young country vet in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s.

We can now confirm that All Creatures Great and Small will be returning to our screens next year.

Channel 5 has announced that it has renewed a further two series –  5 and 6!

The critically acclaimed adaptation from BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning production company Playground (Howard’s End, Wolf Hall, The Hardacres) will return for two more seasons, each with six episodes and a Christmas Special.

All Creatures Great and Small has continued to be the channel’s most popular series. Series 4, which aired from October 2023, saw 4.4 million viewers* tune in across the series run, and the series expanded its audience share even further.

Channel 5 has confirmed the return of series regulars Nicholas Ralph as vet James Herriot, and Samuel West as Siegfried Farnon. Anna Madeley returns as the matriarch of Skeldale House Mrs. Hall, along with Rachel Shenton as Helen Herriot. James Anthony-Rose also reappears as Richard Carmody. Also returning is Patricia Hodge as Mrs Pumphrey, and of course her adored pampered Pekingese Tricki.

What about Tristan?

Callum Woodhouse will make a welcome return to his role as Tristan Farnon, Siegfried’s mischievous brother, after an absence during Season 4.

On the double commissioning, Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor, Drama, Channel 5 and Paramount+ said:

“We’re so pleased that All Creatures Great and Small will be returning to Channel 5 for two more series. The show has captured the hearts of our audiences and we are committed to bringing even more of James Herriot’s unforgettable stories to our viewers. We can’t wait to share this next chapter.”

When could Season 5 start filming?

Season 5 is expected to begin filming in Yorkshire, England soon.

Each season’s shoot in Yorkshire has run through the spring and early summer ahead of an autumn premiere in the UK followed by a January launch in the US.
