Amazon share images of the latest drama in their ‘A Very….Scandal’ anthology series
Amazon MGM have shared the first images of Welsh actor Michael Sheen playing Prince Andrew in its upcoming drama, A Very Royal Scandal. The three-part series is based on his notorious 2019 interview with Emily Maitlis on the BBC programme Newsnight.
What is it about?
Sheen will play the Duke of York opposite Ruth Wilson as Emily Maitlis. The drama is based around the interview in which the Prince declared his innocence following allegations about his sexual involvement with American woman Virginia Giuffre while she was a teenager.
This is the second dramatisation of this event – Netflix released its film Scoop earlier this year, with Gillian Anderson as Emily Maitlis and Rufus Sewell as the Duke of York.
This drama is the latest instalment in Amazon’s Scandal series – the result of a successful collaboration with the BBC that has produced both A Very British Scandal and A Very English Scandal.
Who is in the cast?
Michael Sheen and Ruth Wilson will be joined by Joanna Scanlan as Amanda Thirsk, Alex Jennings as Sir Edward Young, Éanna Hardwicke as Stewart Maclean and Claire Rushbrook as Sarah Ferguson.
Who is behind it?
The series was directed by Julian Jarrold (Becoming Jane) and the teleplay written by Jeremy Brock (The Last King of Scotland). The production company is Blueprint Television (for Amazon MGM Studios) and the distributor is Sony Pictures Television.
When will it be released?
A Very Royal Scandal will arrive on Prime Video on September 19.
