‘Downton Abbey’ producer teases ‘sumptuous’ new series ‘Beecham House’

New British period drama series Beecham House is coming to the US in 2020.

And Downton Abbey fans are in for a treat!

Set on the cusp of the 19th century in India, ITV’s epic new period drama begins in the UK this month and will premiere in the US on Masterpiece on PBS.

Beecham House is based in Delhi, before the British ruled the region, and follows the residents of the titular house, an imposing mansion surrounded by acres of exotic woods and pristine lawns.

Created by the writer and director of Bend It Like Beckham, Gurinder Chadha, the six-part series comes from Downton Abbey executive producer Rebecca Eaton.

Eaton commented on behalf of PBS: “I haven’t seen a series as visually sumptuous as Beecham House in a long time. This is a new time and place for our audience…India in 1795, before the Raj.”

She hinted: “There is love and passion, too, and a storyline full of deepening mystery.”

Beecham House features a cast full of familiar faces from British period dramas, including Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey), Gregory Fitoussi (Mr. Selfridge), Adil Ray (Citizen Khan), Pallavi Sharda (Lion), Dakota Blue Richards (Endeavour), Leo Suter (Victoria), Bessie Carter (Howard’s End), Viveik Kalra (Blinded By The Light) and Marc Warren (Hustle).

Lesley Nicol will reprise the role of Mrs Patmore in the Downton Abbey movie in September.

Beecham House is available on DVD on Amazon.
