Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones), Colin Morgan (Merlin), and Gerard McCarthy (The Fall) are also amongst the wonderful cast.

Belfast is described as “a poignant story of love, laughter and loss in one boy’s childhood, amid the music and social tumult of the late 1960s.”

Watch the new trailer:

The official synopsis reads: “From lauded director Kenneth Branagh, and starring an acclaimed ensemble cast, Belfast is a personal and joyful story about the power of memory, set in late 1960s Northern Ireland.

“At the center of the film is Buddy, a young boy on the cusp of adolescence, whose life is filled with familial love, childhood hijinks, and a blossoming romance.

“Yet, with his beloved hometown caught up in increasing turmoil, his family faces a momentous choice: hope the conflict will pass or leave everything they know behind for a new life.”

Belfast arrives in US cinemas on Friday 12th November, followed by a UK release on 25th February 2022.

You can also rent the movie at home on Amazon Prime Video.

The film has already been getting tremendous reviews, with The Guardian praising “a terrific warmth and tenderness to Kenneth Branagh’s elegiac, autobiographical movie about the Belfast of his childhood.”

In another 5-star review, The Times reckons “it will nab an easy best picture Oscar nomination next year.”

The newspaper wrote: “It’s a film of formal beauty, letter-perfect performances, complex and textured writing (also from Branagh) and enough comedic one-liners and Van Morrison musical montages to make you forget that you’re watching a drama about seething sectarian hatreds.”

Caitriona Balfe will be back on our screens next year in the long-awaited new season of Outlander.

Belfast is available on DVD on Amazon.
