Go behind the scenes of this year’s ‘Call the Midwife’ Christmas special – watch!

The BBC has released a behind the scenes look at 2020’s festive episode of Call the Midwife.

Despite production on the new season being halted earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the BBC’s hit period drama series about a group of nurse midwives working in the East End of London began filming again in August.

Call the Midwife returns later this week with a feature-length 90-minute special!

In a new video on the show’s official Facebook page, the cast discuss how they managed a make the episode against all the odds, and why this year’s special is more important than ever:

This year’s Call the Midwife Christmas special premieres in the UK at 7.40pm on Friday 25th December on BBC One.

US viewers can then watch at 9pm ET on Friday 25th December on PBS Masterpiece.

Fans in Australia will be able to see it on Saturday 26th December on BBC First.

Set in 1965, the episode sees the circus come to Poplar, putting a magical spell on its residents. Meanwhile, a delighted Shelagh is reacquainted with an old friend, and Trixie receives an unusual gift.

A tenth season of Call the Midwife will air in early 2021, although one major cast member won’t be returning.
