‘Call the Midwife’ Christmas preview: The midwives head to Scotland – watch!
The first clip from this year’s festive Call the Midwife special has been released.
The BBC’s hit period drama series about a group of nurse midwives working in the East End of London returns later this month with a new feature-length Yuletide adventure.
Set to premiere on Christmas Day, the episode takes the team to the wild and beautiful Scottish Hebrides Islands.
Call the Midwife creator Heidi Thomas introduced the special at a recent screening in London: “The Outer Hebrides is the most beautiful place I have ever been to in my life, and the Isles of Lewis and Harris make a magnificent setting for the 2019 Christmas Special.
“There are storms, mountains, standing stones, anarchic sheep, and sweeping beaches that take the breath away. The perfect backdrop, in fact, for our famous crimson cardigans and hats. It may not have been the easiest of shoots, but it was a triumphant one!”

Eight brand new episodes of Call the Midwife will follow on BBC One in the UK in early 2020 and on PBS in the US in the Spring.
Hinting at what to expect in Season 9, Heidi Thomas previously revealed: “After a magical Christmas experience in the Hebrides featuring wild seas, stormy skies and some very disobedient sheep, we return to the harsher reality of city life in 1965.”
Call the Midwife star Emerald Fennell, who played Nurse Patsy Mount, is currently back on our screens in the third season of The Crown, playing Charles’ future wife Camilla.
Season 8 is available on DVD on Amazon.
