‘Dalgliesh’ trailer: P.D. James’ 1970s crime drama is coming soon

It’s been announced when Dalgliesh will premiere in the US and the UK.

Acorn TV and Channel 5’s upcoming crime drama series from the makers of Des and Indian Summers is based on the Dalgliesh stories by P.D. James.

The English author wrote 14 novels featuring the character of Adam Dalgliesh between 1962 and 2008.

Bertie Carvel leads the cast as the show’s titular Detective Chief Inspector.

The 44-year-old English actor is best known for his roles in Doctor FosterThe CrownThe Pale Horse, and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.

Set in 1975, the first two-part story will begin on Channel 5 at 9pm on Thursday 4th November, concluding at 9pm on Friday 5th November.

Further episodes will follow on Thursday and Friday nights.

Channel 5’s Deputy Director of Programmes, Sebastian Cardwell said last year: “P.D. James was one of Britain’s great crime writers and we’re incredibly excited to be creating new adaptations of her work.”

Dalgliesh will be available to watch in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia on Acorn TV from Monday 1st November.

Season 1 will adapt three of P.D. James’ novels: Shroud For A NightingaleThe Black Tower, and A Taste For Death.

The official synopsis for ‘Shroud for a Nightingale’ reads: “The young women of Nightingale House are there to learn to nurse and comfort the sick. When one of the students is horribly, brutally killed it is up to Adam Dalgliesh to unmask a killer who has decided to prescribe murder as the cure for all ills.

The official synopsis for ‘The Black Tower’ reads:” Set on the Dorset coast, [this] is a dark investigation into a strange home for the disabled where the caring community is not quite as caring as it proports to be.”

The official synopsis for ‘A Taste for Death’ reads: “Two men lie in a pool of blood at St. Matthews Church Paddington, one is a homeless pensioner, the other a Minister of the Crown, Dalgliesh must dig beneath ugly and dangerous family secrets to bring the murderer to justice.”
