All good things must come to an end, and it’s nearly time to say goodbye to Doc Martin.
Set in the fictional seaside village of Portwenn, the medical comedy-drama began in 2004, airing nearly 80 episodes over the past two decades.
Fortunately for us, although Season 10 concluded last month, we’ve still got a one-off feature-length finale to come!
When’s it on?
The Doc Martin Christmas special will premiere in the UK at 9.05pm on Sunday 25th December on ITV1.
For American viewers, the last ever episode of Doc Martin will hopefully be streaming on Acorn TV not long after its UK broadcast.
Here’s a sneak peek:
The official synopsis reads: “The series ended on a high with nearly six million viewers tuning in to find out whether the Doc would accept a prestigious post in London, or stay in Portwenn.
“A near fatal accident prompted the Doc re-consider his priorities. He decided that his wife and family must come first, and that they should all stay in Portwenn.
“Picturesque Port Isaac provides the beautiful wintry backdrop for the festive special, with all the regular members of the cast reprising their roles.”
Asked what we can look forward to in the Christmas episode, actor Martin Clunes hinted: “Snow, Christmas lights, the lovely Claire Bloom came back to play the character of the Doc’s mother, and Ron Cook as Santa.”
He added: “You can imagine the doctor isn’t too keen on Christmas for his own tortured reasons. It’s never stopped making me laugh, I don’t know why, because if it was a real person who had had such an awful upbringing you’d feel nothing but pity for them, but because it is him it just makes me laugh.”
We’ve also been told there will be a 60-minute documentary about Doc Martin following the transmission of the Christmas special.
Farewell to Doc Martin will air at 8.30pm on Thursday 29th December on ITV1.
Louisa Ellingham actress Caroline Catz, who’ll narrate the doc, commented: “I want to let you in on some of the secrets of Doc Martin, and take you behind the scenes to meet the cast and crew to see just how we make the series.”
