‘Doctor Who’ confirms new behind-the-scenes spin-off ‘Unleashed’

The BBC has revealed details of an exciting new series for Doctor Who fans!

As the iconic British sci-fi series prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary this autumn, a new spin-off has been announced tonight.

Doctor Who: Unleashed will premiere on BBC Three and streaming on BBC iPlayer in November alongside the three upcoming Doctor Who specials.

Featuring the return of David Tennant as the time-travelling Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, an epic trailer for the new episodes was unveiled last weekend.

Described as “a brand new access all areas show,” Doctor Who Unleashed will give viewers “an unmissable insight into the world of Doctor Who.”

A 30-minute episode will accompany each new Doctor Who adventure, hosted by BBC Gaming Correspondent and former Radio 1 Newsbeat presenter Steffan Powell.

“Over the years, I meet so many people who were inspired to find careers in TV, because of the behind-the-scenes material the BBC would show,” revealed Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies.

“And now it’s back, in the grand old tradition of Doctor Who Confidential, but in a brand new form, Unleashed!” he added. “So a whole new generation – and faithful fans of old – can see what the stars and the crew get up to behind the cameras.”

“There’s a really fun and fascinating group of people bringing Doctor Who to life – I can’t wait for the audience to meet them,” teased host Steffan Powell, pictured above with David Tennant on set.

“I’m so chuffed to have been trusted to help tell, in all its glory, the story of what goes into making the magic happen,” he said.

Doctor Who Unleashed will feature exclusive interviews with the stars in front of the camera, as well as those behind it.

The series is expected to also air alongside next year’s new season of Doctor Who, which will introduce Sex Education actor Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor.

“This series gives audiences access to all areas, led brilliantly by Steffan Powell, viewers are invited to see what really goes into the making of Doctor Who,” commented executive producer Jo Pearce.

“It’s been such a privilege to create this show and we’re so grateful to the cast and crew who welcomed us in and allowed us to tell the story behind the drama,” she added.

We fondly remember the show’s previous behind-the-scenes spin-off Doctor Who Confidential, which ran between 2005 until 2011, so this great news!

The past 13 seasons of Doctor Who are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
