‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ reveals 4 new pics – plus first look at the trailer!

It’s been a while since we saw anything new from the upcoming Downton sequel.

Well, Christmas has come early, as a selection of official photos from the film have just been released.

Not only that, but we’ve got a teasing glimpse of the trailer too!

The much-anticipated second Downton Abbey movie finally began filming in England this spring, with strict Covid safety measures in place.

Based on ITV’s hit period drama series, the first Downton film was a huge hit in 2019, grossing over $237 million around the world.

Downton Abbey: A New Era was originally set for release in cinemas next month, just in time for Christmas.

Sadly, the studio announced in July that the movie’s release date was being delayed until early 2022 instead.

We can now confirm that the full trailer for Downton Abbey: A New Era will make its debut this weekend, premiering exclusively in cinemas alongside new Irish period drama Belfast.

Starring Caitriona Balfe (Outlander), Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey), Dame Judi Dench (Skyfall), and Colin Morgan (Merlin), Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical movie is released in the US tomorrow.

Belfast is described as “a poignant story of love, laughter and loss in one boy’s childhood, amid the music and social tumult of the late 1960s.”

Here’s an exciting preview of the Downton trailer:

We expect the trailer to arrive online within the next week or so.

The plot of Downton Abbey: A New Era is being kept a strictly guarded secret, and we still know surprisingly little about the story.

What we do know is that the “entire” Downton cast will be back, hopefully including a healthy Dowager Countess!

New faces will include Hannibal actor Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock (Da Vinci’s Demons), French actress Nathalie Baye (Catch Me If You Can), and Dominic West (The Hour).

The new photos also confirm the return of Tuppence Middleton as Lucy Smith, the secret illegitimate daughter of Maud Bagshaw.

A photo of Tom and Lucy getting ready for a game of tennis with Edith and Bertie suggests that the couple’s romance has blossomed since they got together at the end of the first Downton movie.

Downton Abbey: A New Era arrives in cinemas worldwide on Friday 18th March 2022.

Fans can actress Elizabeth McGovern live on stage in London next year.

The Lady Cora actress will be playing Ava Gardner in a new play that she’s adapted herself.

Meanwhile, Anna Bates star Joanne Froggatt can currently be seen in ITV’s new thriller series Angela Black.

Downton Abbey: The Complete Collection box set is available on DVD on Amazon.
