‘Downton Abbey’ returns to PBS this spring

Sunday evenings on PBS haven’t been the same without Downton Abbey – but that’s about to change!

PBS has announced that the hit British period drama series is being shown again for American viewers from the very beginning this spring and summer.

The first season will be airing at 10pm ET on Sundays from May 17 to June 7, with reruns of Season 2 broadcast from June 14 to July 26, and Season 3 following from August 2 to September 13.

If you can’t wait that long to revisit the Crawleys, all six seasons of Downton Abbey will be available to stream with PBS Passport beginning Sunday March 1.

We’re told that fans will have to wait until 2027 for Seasons 4-6 though.

This year marks 15 years since Downton Abbey became a runaway hit when it debuted on PBS in 2011.

The series had an incredible 59 Emmy nominations during its run, making it one of the most-honored television series ever, winning 12 Emmys, three Golden Globes, four Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Producers Guild Award and four BAFTAs.

“It was an honor to present all six, glorious seasons of Downton Abbey on Masterpiece,” says executive producer Susanne Simpson.

“The magic of Julian Fellowes’ blend of drama and humor played out by the exceptional ensemble cast made for the most successful series in Masterpiece’s history,” she commented.

“I’m thrilled that we will now be sharing it with a new generation of viewers who can fall in love with this beautiful, engaging and inspiring series,” added Simpsons.

The Crawley’s story concluded last year with the release of a third movie, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.
