‘Downton Abbey’ movie plot revealed: Guess who’s coming to dinner!

The plot of the upcoming Downton Abbey movie has been shrouded in secrecy so far.

However, we now have our first tidbits of information about what to expect from the film’s story.

Thanks to the premiere of a brand new trailer at CinemaCon this week, we’ve learnt that the movie will feature some very special guests coming to stay at Downton – royalty, nonetheless!

Yes, King George V and Queen Mary will be visiting the Abbey.

The actors playing the royal couple haven’t yet been confirmed.

In a description of the trailer, Variety reveals that “the Crawley family and their army of maids, butlers, cooks, and assorted domestics are thrown into disarray by the impending arrival of King George V and Queen Mary.”

They add: “The year is 1927 and the Crawleys are tightening the old, bespoke belt, making day with slightly fewer servants. In order to get things in ship-shape, they ask the retired head butler Carson to return to the estate.”

The trailer also hints that Lady Mary is planning to leave Downon, with maid Anna trying to persuade her to stay.

“Downton Abbey is the heart of this community and you’re keeping it beating,” begs Anna.

We’d expect this new trailer to be officially unveiled online within the next week or so – we’ll let you know as soon as it’s up!

Written by Downton creator Julian Fellowes, the movie finished filming last November and will feature (almost) the entire TV show’s main cast returning to their roles.

The Downton Abbey movie will be released in cinemas around the world this September.

Downton Abbey: The Complete Collection DVD box set is available on Amazon.
