‘Downton Abbey’ creator joins Netflix for new TV drama about the invention of football
Downton Abbey writer Julian Fellowes has teamed up with Netflix to produce a new period drama series exploring the origins of football.
Set in the late 1800s, the six-part event drama will be called The English Game.
More details are currently scarce, but the mini-series will reportedly “delve into how the sport crossed class lines and became a worldwide phenomenon despite its humble beginnings on the pitch at London’s Limes Field.”
Fellowes is also currently working on scripts for his upcoming American TV series The Gilded Age, “a Downton Abbey-esque series about the millionaires of 1880s New York.” Following six years in development, his new drama series was officially picked up by NBC for 10 episodes in March.
Downton Abbey: The Complete Collection is available to buy now.
The Downton Abbey movie is expected to begin filming this summer.
