‘Downton Abbey’ star says Anna is in ‘a really good place’ in the movie
Joanne Froggatt has promised “everything people want, but elevated” in the upcoming Downton Abbey movie.
The big screen spin-off of ITV’s hit period drama begins in 1927, around 18 months after the events of the final episode.
The movie finished filming last autumn and the first trailer dropped in December.
Almost the entire main cast of the TV series will be returning, including Joanne Froggatt as Anna Bates.
Anna had a pretty rough time during Downton Abbey‘s six seasons, so we’re very happy to report this news from Froggatt.
The star told The Telegraph: “Anna is in a really good place [in the movie]. She and Mr Bates have a baby boy, now 18 months old.
“She is passionate about helping Lady Mary with the running of Downton, about keeping the legacy going.”
Froggatt told fans they can expect “romance, fun, surprises, sadness and intrigue” in the movie.
She added that the script by Downton creator Julian Fellowes features “everything people want, but elevated.”
The 38-year-old actress from North Yorksire also described the experience of working with the cast again as “like a lovely school reunion.”
She commented: “It’s amazing that people wanted us back to do the movie. It was so surreal. Everyone who was there at the end is there in the movie.”
Joanne Froggatt begins filming a second season of her ITV thriller series Liar soon.
Her Downton co-star Allen Leech recently revealed that Tom Branson will finally get “the ending he deserved” in the film.
The Downton Abbey movie will be released on Friday 13th September in the UK and on Friday 20th September in the USA.
