‘Grantchester’ newcomer says it’s ‘a real honour’ to be playing the show’s new vicar
The actor who’ll be replacing James Norton as the new vicar in Grantchester has described his excitement at joining the cast.
Tom Brittney, who has previously appeared in Outlander and Call the Midwife, will make his debut as Reverend Will Davenport in the upcoming fourth season.
The 27-year-old actor commented: “I am beyond excited. From the moment I heard about the role of Will Davenport, it was something I wanted more than anything.”
He added: “It’s a real honour to be joining such a wonderful series, with such a loyal fan base.”
The new episodes, which began filming last month, will see James Norton departing his role as Sidney Chambers.
It hasn’t yet been confirmed how many episodes Norton will appear in before he leaves.
Based on James Runcie’s novels, the period drama series is set in the 1950s in the Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester and was first broadcast in 2014.
Season 3 is available now to buy on DVD.
The fourth season of Grantchester is expected to air in the UK on ITV in early 2019 and on Masterpiece on PBS in the US at a later date.
