Will there be a sixth season of ‘Grantchester’?
Grantchester fans are eagerly waiting to find out if there will be another season.
Based on the novels by James Runcie, ITV’s popular period drama series returned to UK screens earlier this year with six brand new episodes.
Grantchester launched in 2016, originally starring James Norton (War & Peace) and Robson Green (Soldier Soldier).
Outlander actor Tom Brittney joined the cast as clergyman Will Davenport in last year’s Season 4 and returned in the recent fifth season.
Despite Season 5 ending with a number of shock revelations in February, ITV hasn’t yet announced if the show will be back.
It may be that ITV are waiting for their production partners at Masterpiece to commit, which possibly won’t be until after Season 5 premieres in the US this summer.
The latest episodes attracted decent (but not spectacular) ratings in the UK this year, averaging just under 3 million viewers on Friday nights.
The fifth season of Grantchester began filming in August last year.
Fans needn’t worry about the lack of an official Season 6 confirmation though, as an announcement wasn’t made about Season 5 until last July.
However, even if a renewal is announced for Grantchester, it’s likely that there will be a delay in production due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The worldwide crisis has already seen filming shut down on the new season of Call the Midwife and many others TV series.
Fortunately, production on The Crown finished just in time last month.
Amazon Prime members can currently catch up on the first four seasons of Grantchester for free!

Tom Brittney will be back on TV soon in Make Me Famous.
He’s starring alongside Amanda Abbington (Mr Selfridge) and Nina Sosanya (Last Tango in Halifax) in the BBC’s one-off film.
Grantchester is available on DVD on Amazon.
