‘Grantchester’ star James Norton approves of his ‘fantastic’ replacement
James Norton has described the actor who’ll be replacing him in Grantchester as a “wonderful addition” to the cast.
It was announced earlier this month that 27-year-old actor Tom Brittney (Outlander, Call the Midwife) is joining the show as Reverend Will Davenport.
Norton will be departing his role as Sidney Chambers at some point in the upcoming Season 4.
James Norton commented: “As excited as I am to be filming a new series of Grantchester, it’s also heartbreaking to be saying goodbye to Sidney Chambers. I’ve loved this experience, and particularly working with such an extraordinary cast and crew.”
He added: “All the best to the fantastic Tom Brittney in his role as the new vicar. He is a wonderful addition to the Grantchester family.”
The fourth season of Grantchester began filming in June. The new episodes are expected to air in the UK on ITV in early 2019 and on Masterpiece on PBS in the US at a later date.
Season 3 is available now to buy on DVD.
Based on James Runcie’s novels, the period drama series is set in the 1950s in the Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester and was first broadcast in 2014.
