‘Harry Potter’ star Rupert Grint looks VERY different in BBC’s new Poirot series
The first look at Rupert Grint in the BBC’s new Agatha Christie adaptation has been unveiled.
From the makers of And Then There Were None and The Witness for the Prosecution, a new adaptation of Christie’s The ABC Murders began filming earlier this year.
First published in January 1936, the detective novel sees Hercule Poirot, Arthur Hastings and Chief Inspector Japp investigate a series of killings by a mysterious murderer known only as “A.B.C.”.
Hollywood star John Malkovich (Of Mice & Men, In the Line of Fire) will make his debut as the latest TV incarnation of the famous Belgian detective, replacing the iconic David Suchet.
Malkovich is joined by English actor Rupert Grint, best known as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, who’ll be playing Inspector Crome in BBC One’s upcoming three-part drama.
The official synopsis for The ABC Murders reads: “…the setting is the 1930s; a time when the nation is dangerously divided and suspicion and hatred are on the rise. In the midst of this Poirot faces a serial killer known only as A.B.C. First the killer strikes in Andover, then Bexhill.
“As the murder count rises, the only clue is the copy of The ABC Railway Guide at each crime scene. Poirot’s investigations are thwarted at every turn by an enemy determined to outsmart him. If Poirot is to match his nemesis then everything about him will be called into question; his authority, his integrity, his past, his identity.”
Executive producer James Prichard, who is Agatha Christie’s great grandson, previously commented: “The ABC Murders is one of my great grandmother’s most unsettling and intense stories and Hercule Poirot one of her most intriguing characters.
“I am humbled by the quality of cast we have lined up for the show and I am most excited to experience the unique approach John Malkovich will bring to the role in this thrilling one-off television adaptation.”
Set to air in the UK this Christmas on BBC One, The ABC Murders also stars Andrew Buchan (Garrow’s Law) as Franklin Clarke, Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks) as Cust, Tara Fitzgerald (Game of Thrones) as Lady Hermione Clarke, Bronwyn James (Harlots) as Megan, and Freya Mavor (The Sense of an Ending) as Thora Grey.
