‘Line of Duty’ and ‘Call the Midwife’ stars joins new season of ‘Victoria’

Several new Victoria guest stars have been announced.

Filming is currently underway on Season 2, which will see Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) and Tom Hughes (The Game) return as Victoria and Prince Albert for eight new episodes and a Christmas special.

Line of Duty actor Martin Compston will play Dr. Robert Traill.

The Scottish physicist, geologist and meteorologist was a key campaigner in the petition to gain awareness and support for those suffering from the potato famine in Ireland during the 1840s.

French King Louis Philippe, who Queen Victoria visits on her first outing to France in Season 2, has also been cast. He’ll be played by French actor Bruno Wolkowitch (Spin).

Season 2 will also introduce Dame Diana Rigg – best known as Emma Peel in the 1960s TV series The Avengers – as the Duchess of Bucchleuch, the young Queen’s new Mistress of the Robes.

Other new cast additions include Emerald Fennell (Call the Midwife), Jo Stone-Fewings (The Hollow Crown), Leo Suter (Maleficent) and Michael Maloney (Paranoid).

Victoria launched in the UK last autumn and premiered in the US earlier this year.

The second season is expected to air on Masterpiece on PBS in early 2018.

The show’s creator and executive producer Daisy Goodwin recently revealed: “In many ways Victoria’s dilemma [in Season 2] is a modern one – how do you have a successful marriage and a happy family when you are holding down an important job. Can you really have it all?”
