Suranne Jones drama ‘Maryland’ gets PBS premiere date and trailer

Hit British drama Maryland is heading to American screens next year!

From the makers of Murder in Provence and Harlots, the three-parter aired in the UK this spring on ITVX.

A brilliant cast is led by Suranne Jones (Scott & Bailey), Eve Best (House of the Dragon), and Stockard Channing (The Good Wife).

Best known in recent years for her award-winning role in Gentleman Jack, Jones also co-created this new series.

“I love how complex sibling relationships can be and I’m thrilled we get to do it over 3 wonderful hours and not as a ‘side story’,” she has commented.

Maryland delves into family dynamics and the way in which we ‘label’ each other, sometimes never letting ourselves or our siblings break free from those roles. We look at how we grow apart from one another and how sometimes we don’t really know anything about the people we call our own,” Jones explained.

MaryLand tells a story about two sisters, about what binds them together and what has driven them apart,” the official synopsis tells us.

“Becca (Jones) and Rosaline (Best) find themselves thrown together by the sudden death of their mother, Mary. They come to find out that she was living an entirely secret life on the Isle of Man, far from her home with her husband, Becca and Rosaline’s father.

“As the sisters travel through the early days of grief and discover their mother’s secrets, they meet their mother’s quirky friend Cathy (Channing) who seems to know more about their mother than they do.

“Becca and Rosaline find themselves asking fundamental questions about their identities and the relationships with the men in their lives. Mary’s death offers them a chance to not only reframe their relationship but fundamentally reshape who they are.”

Filmed in Ireland last year, Maryland also stars Hugh Quarshie (Stephen), Dean Lennox Kelly (Tom Jones), and Andrew Knott (Ackley Bridge).

When’s the US release date?

Maryland is set to premiere at 9/8c on on Sunday 7 April 2024 on Masterpiece on PBS.

MaryLand is an emotional journey of two estranged sisters who are determined to find the truth about their mother,” teased Masterpiece executive producer Susanne Simpson.

“Suranne Jones and Eve Best deliver stunning performances in this wonderful show,” she added.

There was sad news for Gentleman Jack fans last summer when HBO confirmed that they wouldn’t be renewing the period drama for a third season.
