Netflix’s new Sherlock Holmes series ‘The Irregulars’ has resumed filming
Production has recommenced on Netflix’s upcoming twist on the Sherlock Holmes stories.
Originally announced two years ago, the new series follows the ‘Baker Street Irregulars,’ rather than focusing on The Great Detective himself.
In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic novels, they are a gang of boys who provide Holmes with information from the streets of London.
Starring Indian Summers actor Henry Lloyd-Hughes as Sherlock Holmes, The Irregulars began filming in the UK at the end of 2019.
Along with most other film and TV productions, the shoot was halted earlier this due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, we’ve learned that cameras are now rolling again on the series!
Henry Lloyd-Hughes is best known for his roles in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Killing Eve, and Parade’s End.
The official synopsis reads: “Set in Victorian London, The Irregulars follows a gang of troubled delinquent teens who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner.
“As the crimes take on a horrifying supernatural edge and a dark power emerges, it’ll be up to the Irregulars to come together to save London, each other, and potentially the entire world.”
John Watson will be played by Royce Pierreson (Line of Duty), who you may recognise from Judy, The Living and the Dead, and Our Girl.
The Irregulars creator Tom Bidwell (Watership Down) previously revealed: “Sherlock Holmes had a group of street kids he’d use to help him gather clues so our series is what if Sherlock was a drug addict and a delinquent and the kids solve the whole case whilst he takes credit.
“It’s my dream project and my oldest idea (I’ve been pitching it for ten years) and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working on it … Netflix are incredibly supportive for our vision for the show and it’s allowing us to be very ambitious with the way we’re telling our stories.”
The cast also includes Thaddea Graham (Letter For The King) as Bea, Darci Shaw (The Bay) as Jessie, Jojo Marcari (Hard Sun) as Billy, McKell David (Damilola: Our Loved Boy) as Spike, Harrison Osterfield (Catch 22) as Leopold, and Clarke Peters (His Dark Materials) as Linen Man.
The Irregulars will premiere around the world exclusively on Netflix in 2021.
Another Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law is also set to be released next year.
The complete Sherlock DVD box set is available on Amazon.
