New season of ‘Last Tango in Halifax’ has started filming!
Okay, we know this isn’t a period drama, but we love this series…
Following some confusing reports from the cast about the show’s future, it was officially confirmed earlier this year that Last Tango in Halifax is returning for a new season.
BBC One’s family comedy-drama series premiered in November 2012 and ran for three seasons, telling the story of former childhood sweethearts Alan and Celia, who reunite in their seventies.
Last Tango briefly returned in 2016 with two Christmas specials and it seemed like that was the end.
Fortunately, the cast recently began filming four brand new 60-minute episodes!
Produced by the makers of Les Misérables and written by Gentleman Jack creator Sally Wainwright, the fifth season of Last Tango in Halifax will air on BBC One in the UK in early 2020.
All the main cast will be reprising their roles, including Anne Reid, Derek Jacobi, Nicola Walker and Sarah Lancashire.
Executive producer Ben Irving commented: “Last Tango In Halifax is one of our most beloved dramas and we couldn’t be happier to be bringing Sally Wainwright’s phenomenal characters back to BBC One next year.”
Last Tango writer Sally Wainwright’s hit period drama series Gentleman Jack was renewed for a second season this summer.
Last Tango in Halifax is available on DVD on Amazon.
